# Monsoon Cycles and Gumwall Grand Prix: full text of the key pages > Custom steel bicycle frames handmade in Colorado Springs by Austin Monson, plus free browser tools for cyclists. Gumwall Grand Prix is a free indoor cycling game in a browser tab: Bluetooth smart trainers in Chrome or Edge, dumb trainers with a speed sensor, or the arrow keys; sixteen courses, eleven on the real centerlines of famous racing circuits; multiplayer, bots, leaderboards, Strava upload, and an optional shooter mode. No download, no subscription, no account needed to ride. Short index: https://www.monsooncycles.com/llms.txt. We make one of them. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated November 4, 2026 Zwift costs $19.99 a month and the free tier is gone. Since December 2025 there is a 14-day trial and then the bill. Below is every free option that runs in a browser tab with a Bluetooth trainer, tested on a Wahoo Kickr Core and a dumb trainer with a speed sensor, plus the two free apps worth installing. We make one of these, Gumwall Grand Prix, and we say where the others are better. TRY OURS IN THIS TAB HOW TO PAIR A TRAINER ## The market in one paragraph Zwift bought Rouvy and FulGaz in April 2026, so three of the big subscription apps now share an owner. BKOOL closed in November 2025 and Wahoo RGT is gone. indieVelo became TrainingPeaks Virtual and moved inside a paid TrainingPeaks plan. Meanwhile a wave of small browser apps launched in 2025 and 2026, most of them by one or two people, most of them free. None of them ships real racing circuits, which is the lane we picked. ## Every free browser option, compared | App | Price | Install | Dumb trainer | Real routes | Multiplayer | Account | | Gumwall Grand Prix (ours) | Free, no tiers | None, browser tab | Yes, speed sensor and published curves | Eleven real circuits: Nordschleife, Spa, Monza, Monaco, Le Mans, Laguna Seca, Bathurst, Interlagos, Suzuka, Watkins Glen, Pikes Peak | Yes, live riders, bots, chat | Not to ride; email link for leaderboards | | Biketerra | Free tier, paid Premium | None, browser | Not tested | Any GPX file rendered in 3D | Yes | Yes | | Ride Cave | Free beta | None, browser | Not tested | Eighteen velodromes | Yes | Yes | | OpenRadlr | Free, open source | None, browser | Not tested | No, a fictional island | Yes, plus bots | Not tested | | OpenPack | Free beta | None, browser | Keyboard mode; sensors not tested | GPX on OpenStreetMap roads | Not tested | Not tested | | rampida | Free | None, browser | Not tested | GPX and map routes | Not tested | Not tested | | Moveee Indoor | Free, paid extras | None, browser | Not tested | GPX routes | Not tested | Yes | | PeakPulse | Free tier | None, browser | Not tested | GPX routes | Not tested | Yes | | Cycloscape | Free | None, browser | Not tested | Map-based routes | Not tested | Not tested | | MyWhoosh | Free | App, several GB | Limited | No, stylized worlds | Yes, and UCI esports racing | Yes | | TrainingPeaks Virtual | Inside TrainingPeaks Premium, $134.99 a year | App | Varies | GPX upload and World Routes; the Nordschleife since June 2026 | Yes, strong racing | Yes | | Zwift, for reference | $19.99 a month, $199.99 a year | App, several GB | Yes, zPower | No; Watopia and a few stylized real cities | Yes, the biggest | Yes | Rows marked not tested come from the apps' own sites as of November 4, 2026. Open the tab, pair, ride the Nordschleife with the real gradients on your trainer, race bots or whoever is on. It loses on polish: the world is low resolution on purpose, there is no structured workout library yet, and the rider count is small. The courses , why it is free . Biketerra wins if you want your own GPX files in 3D. Upload a ride and it builds the terrain. The free tier is enough to try it; the good stuff is Premium. Ride Cave wins for track riders. Eighteen velodromes and racing built around them. Nothing else does that. OpenRadlr wins if you want open source. You can read the code, run it yourself and change it. The world is fictional and the bots are good. OpenPack wins for GPX on real map roads with a keyboard mode and gamepad support. The closest in spirit to what we do, minus the circuits. rampida, Moveee, PeakPulse and Cycloscape each turn a GPX or a map route into a ride. They differ in looks and in what is behind a paywall. rampida also keeps a comparison page of free apps worth reading. MyWhoosh wins on scale for a free app: full 3D worlds, structured workouts, a UCI esports series, and funding that is not going away soon. It is an install of several gigabytes and it wants an account. Ours versus MyWhoosh . TrainingPeaks Virtual wins on racing physics and training integration if you already pay for TrainingPeaks. It is the one other app with the Nordschleife. Ours versus TrainingPeaks Virtual . ## What free actually means here No subscription, no trial clock, no feature paywall, no download, and no account needed to ride. Sign in with an email link only if you want leaderboards, multiplayer names and ride logging. The game exists because Monsoon Cycles is a frame shop, not a software company: the game sells nothing but the idea that bikes are joyful, and occasionally a handmade steel frame to someone who fell in love with their virtual one. ## What Zwift still does better Zwift has vastly bigger worlds, a structured workout and ERG library, organized racing at scale, pace partners, and a decade of polish. If you race seriously indoors or train to a plan, Zwift earns its subscription, and so does TrainingPeaks Virtual. If you want to spin on a trainer in a small world, ride real famous circuits, and pay nothing, that is us. ## What you need - Best: a smart trainer with Bluetooth FTMS and Chrome or Edge on a laptop, Chromebook or Android phone. The gradient changes the resistance. Pairing takes a minute . - Also great: any dumb trainer plus a Bluetooth speed sensor. We estimate watts from wheel speed with published virtual power curves . - Just looking: arrow keys. Demo mode works on anything with a browser, including an iPhone. ## Common questions ### Is there a free alternative to Zwift that does not require a subscription? Yes, several. Gumwall Grand Prix is free with no subscription, no trial and no account needed to ride, in a browser tab. MyWhoosh is free as an installed app. Biketerra has a free tier in the browser. Ride Cave, OpenRadlr, OpenPack, rampida, Moveee, PeakPulse and Cycloscape are free or free in beta. ### Which Zwift alternatives run free in the browser? Gumwall Grand Prix, Biketerra (free tier), Ride Cave, OpenRadlr, OpenPack, rampida, Moveee Indoor, PeakPulse and Cycloscape all run in a browser tab. They pair trainers over Web Bluetooth, which means Chrome or Edge on a laptop, Chromebook or Android phone. ### Why can't Zwift run in a browser? It could; this page is proof that a browser can pair a trainer and draw a 3D world. Zwift is a large native app with gigabytes of downloaded worlds and a decade of code built for app stores, and the company has said on its forum that a web version is not on the roadmap. The browser apps on this page were built web-first and are much smaller. ### Can I run Zwift on a Chromebook? Zwift has no ChromeOS version, and the Android build is hit and miss on the few Chromebooks that can install it. Gumwall Grand Prix runs in Chrome on any Chromebook with Bluetooth. See the Chromebook guide. ### Can I use Zwift without a smart trainer? Yes, Zwift estimates power from wheel speed on a list of supported classic trainers, which it calls zPower. Gumwall Grand Prix does the same with a Bluetooth speed sensor and publishes the exact curves it uses. The no-smart-trainer guide has the setup. ### Can I ride a Zwift Hub without Zwift? Yes. The Zwift Hub is an FTMS trainer like any other and pairs with any FTMS app, including this one, in Chrome or Edge. The Zwift Hub guide has the steps. ### Does it work on iPhone? Partly. iPhone Safari has no Web Bluetooth, so no browser app can pair a trainer on an iPhone. Demo mode and touch controls work. Use a laptop, a Chromebook or an Android phone for live sensors, or the Bluefy browser app on iOS. MyWhoosh and TrainingPeaks Virtual have native iPhone apps. The whole of Gumwall Grand Prix is free, in the browser, with no download and no subscription. Sign in only if you want leaderboards, chat, and ride logging. ### Do I need a smart trainer? No. A smart trainer gives you gradient resistance, but a basic trainer plus a Bluetooth speed sensor works with estimated power, and demo mode needs nothing but a keyboard. ### Are these the real circuits? The centerline shapes and elevations come from real open map data, so the corners and grades are where they are in life. The worlds around them, and the names, are ours, with no affiliation to or endorsement by any venue. Free, in your browser, on any trainer. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated November 4, 2026 If you can draw these outlines from memory, this page is for you. Gumwall Grand Prix has sixteen courses, and eleven of them follow the real mapped centerlines of famous racing circuits: the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Monaco, Le Mans, Laguna Seca, Bathurst, Interlagos, Suzuka, Watkins Glen and the Pikes Peak Highway. The same corners you know from television and racing sims, with the real elevation underneath. You ride them on a bicycle, in your browser, for free. The shapes come from OpenStreetMap centerlines and the climbs from real elevation data, so the corner you brake for in a sim is the corner you will suffer up here. In the game the circuits carry joke names; the cards below give the real name first. The circuits are not affiliated with us, and nothing here implies they are. I just wanted to ride around these circuits myself. Of the eleven, only three exist in any other indoor cycling app as of November 2026: the Nordschleife (Rouvy, TrainingPeaks Virtual), Mount Panorama (FulGaz) and Pikes Peak (Rouvy), all inside paid plans. Spa, Monza, Monaco, Le Mans, Laguna Seca, Suzuka, Watkins Glen and Interlagos are here and, as far as we can find, nowhere else. No download, no subscription. No app, no account. Troubleshooting for Wahoo, Tacx, Elite, Zwift Hub. --- # How to pair a Bluetooth smart trainer in your browser Chrome or Edge, one click, no app and no account. Works with Wahoo, Tacx, Elite, Zwift Hub and any FTMS trainer. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated November 4, 2026 You can pair a Bluetooth smart trainer to a web page. Chrome and Edge have had Web Bluetooth for years. Gumwall Grand Prix uses it to read your power and to drive the resistance with the gradient, the same FTMS protocol every trainer app uses. There is nothing to install and no account to make. The whole thing takes about a minute the first time and ten seconds after that. OPEN THE GAME NO SMART TRAINER? ## How to pair, step by step - Open the game in Chrome or Edge. Go to monsooncycles.com/game in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a laptop, desktop, Chromebook or Android phone. Those browsers have Web Bluetooth. Safari and Firefox do not, so iPhone and iPad cannot pair live sensors. - Wake the trainer. Plug the trainer in and spin the pedals once so it starts advertising over Bluetooth. Close any other trainer app, because a Bluetooth trainer talks to one app at a time. - Click PAIR SENSORS, then Smart trainer. Under the ride, click PAIR SENSORS and choose Smart trainer. The browser opens its own device picker, which is the permission step. Pick your trainer by name and click Pair. - Confirm power shows. Pedal. Within a few seconds the POWER pod shows watts and the course gradient starts changing the resistance. If it reads zero, spin the pedals again and reload the page. That is the entire process. The browser's device picker is the only permission prompt, and it is the same one a web page would use for a heart rate strap or a keyboard. ## What you are looking at | Pod | Where it comes from | What it means | | POWER | Trainer, FTMS Indoor Bike Data | Your watts, straight from the trainer's strain gauge or estimate | | CADENCE | Trainer or a cadence sensor | Pedal revolutions per minute | | SPEED | Calculated by the game | Speed on the virtual road from your watts, the gradient and drag, not the trainer's flywheel speed | | HEART RATE | A Bluetooth strap, paired separately | Beats per minute | ## Trainer by trainer - Wahoo KICKR, Core, Snap, Move, and the Zwift Hub. Plain FTMS. Pair and ride. Wahoo notes , Zwift Hub without Zwift , KICKR Core without a subscription . - Tacx Neo, Flux, Flow, Vortex, and Elite Direto, Suito, Zumo, Justo. FTMS from about 2016 on. Tacx and Elite notes , including the older lever models. - Saris H3, M2, JetBlack Volt, Magene, Thinkrider, Van Rysel. FTMS. Pair the same way. - Any dumb trainer. Pair a speed sensor instead and pick a curve. The virtual power setup and the published curves . ## Troubleshooting in order - Another app has the trainer. Quit it. One Bluetooth connection at a time is a trainer rule, not a browser rule. - The trainer is asleep. Spin the pedals, or unplug and plug it back in. - Wrong browser. The address bar must say Chrome or Edge. Arc, Brave and Vivaldi are Chromium and usually work too; Safari and Firefox never will. - Bluetooth is off at the operating system level. Turn it on, then reload the page. - Range. Bluetooth LE likes to be within a few meters with no metal in the way. A laptop on the floor behind the flywheel is a common cause of dropouts. Still stuck? The REPORT A BUG button at the bottom of every page goes straight to Austin, and a trainer model name helps. ## Pairing questions ### Which browsers can pair a Bluetooth trainer? Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS and Android. They ship Web Bluetooth. Safari, Firefox and every browser on iPhone and iPad do not, so those devices cannot pair live sensors from a web page. On iOS the free Bluefy browser adds Web Bluetooth and works. ### Do I need to install anything? No. There is no app, no driver and no account. The browser asks for permission once per device and remembers it for the tab. ### Which trainers work? Any trainer that speaks Bluetooth FTMS, which is nearly every smart trainer sold since about 2018: Wahoo KICKR and KICKR Core, Zwift Hub, Tacx Neo and Flux, Elite Direto, Suito and Justo, Saris H3, JetBlack and others. If Zwift sees it as a controllable trainer over Bluetooth, it will pair here. ### The trainer does not show in the picker. Why? Nine times in ten another app is holding the connection. Quit Zwift, the Wahoo app, the Tacx app or whatever paired last, power-cycle the trainer, and try again. On Windows, make sure Bluetooth is on in system settings. On Linux, Chrome needs the experimental Web Platform features flag turned on. ### Does the gradient change the resistance? Yes. The game writes the road grade to the trainer over the FTMS control point, so climbs get harder and descents get easier. A trainer difficulty setting in the BIKE tab scales it. ### I have a dumb trainer. Can I still ride? Yes. Pair a Bluetooth speed sensor instead of a trainer, pick your trainer's resistance curve, and the game estimates power from wheel speed. The no-smart-trainer guide covers it. ### Does it work on a phone? Android phones in Chrome, yes, including pairing. iPhones can ride demo mode with touch controls but cannot pair sensors in Safari. Smart trainer Bluetooth, explained | Monsoon Cycles Description: FTMS is the Bluetooth standard that lets apps read power and control resistance on smart trainers. What it does, and how the game uses it. --- # FTMS, the smart trainer standard, explained FTMS (Fitness Machine Service) is the open Bluetooth standard smart trainers use to report power and accept resistance commands. If your trainer is from the last several years, it speaks FTMS. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated November 4, 2026 When Gumwall Grand Prix connects to your smart trainer it reads the Indoor Bike Data stream (power, cadence, speed) and writes to the control point: when the road tilts up, the game sends your trainer the new gradient and pedaling gets harder. That is the entire magic of every smart trainer app, and it is an open standard, which is why a free browser game can do it. Older trainers sometimes speak proprietary Bluetooth dialects instead (the early Tacx FE-C-over-BLE era); support for those quirk-by-quirk is on the roadmap as real hardware reaches the shop. ## FTMS questions ### How do I know if my trainer has FTMS? Almost everything sold since about 2018 does. If Zwift connects to it over Bluetooth as a controllable trainer, FTMS will almost certainly work here too. ### Why does the game need Chrome or Edge? Web Bluetooth, the browser API that talks to sensors, ships in Chromium browsers. Firefox and Safari have chosen not to implement it. ## Pairing, step by step - Open the game in Chrome or Edge. Web Bluetooth lives in Chromium browsers. Go to monsooncycles.com/game on a laptop, Chromebook or Android phone. - Click PAIR SENSORS, then Smart trainer. The browser shows its device picker. Pick the trainer by name and click Pair. - Pick the trainer. FTMS trainers show by their model name, for example KICKR CORE 1234 or Tacx Neo. - Confirm power shows. Pedal. The exact curves we use, published. --- # No smart trainer? Ride anyway A basic fluid or magnetic trainer plus an inexpensive Bluetooth speed sensor is all you need: the game estimates your watts from wheel speed using published trainer curves. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated August 16, 2026 Smart trainers are wonderful and expensive. The classic answer, the one Zwift was built on in 2015, still works: put your bike on any dumb trainer, strap a Bluetooth speed sensor to the wheel, and let software turn wheel speed into estimated watts. We publish the exact curves we use , so you know precisely what the estimate is doing. ## The three-step setup - Mount the bike on your trainer and set the roller tension the same way every ride, because the curve assumes consistent tension. - In the game, tap CONNECT SPEED/CADENCE and pick your sensor (CatEye, Wahoo, Garmin, any Bluetooth CSC sensor works). - Under MORE, choose your trainer curve (magnetic light, medium, heavy, or fluid) and your wheel size from the 23-size list . That is it. Estimated power will track within roughly 10 percent of a real power meter on a consistent setup, which is plenty for training rhythm, segment hunting, and having a great time. SET UP YOUR TRAINER ## Trainer questions ### How accurate is virtual power? On a consistent setup, within roughly ten percent of a real power meter, with the biggest error at very high wheel speeds. It is consistent with itself, which is what matters for training. ### Which sensors work? Any Bluetooth LE speed or speed-and-cadence sensor using the standard CSC service: CatEye, Garmin, Wahoo, Magene, and most others. ### Does iPhone work? iPhone Safari cannot talk to Bluetooth sensors from a web page. Demo mode and .fit replay work on iPhone; for live sensors use a laptop with Chrome or Edge, an Android device, or the Bluefy browser app on iOS. What works, what iOS limits, and the Bluefy workaround for sensors. --- # Riding on an iPhone The game runs free in mobile Safari with touch controls and portrait play; iOS limits live Bluetooth sensors, and there are two good workarounds. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated August 16, 2026 Open the game on your iPhone and it just runs: portrait or landscape, pinch to zoom, drag to look around, and a hold-to-PEDAL button for demo riding. Your bike from the Frame Lab comes with you. ## The one iOS limitation Apple does not allow web pages to use Bluetooth, so live sensors cannot pair inside Safari. Your options: ride demo mode or replay a .fit file (both work perfectly), use the free Bluefy browser app which adds Web Bluetooth to iOS, or use any laptop or Android device with Chrome. ## iPhone questions ### Does the game need an app? Gumwall Grand Prix does: a free cycling game in Chrome with Bluetooth smart trainer and speed sensor pairing, no install, no account. Setup in three steps. --- # Indoor cycling on a Chromebook Zwift has no ChromeOS version. This runs in Chrome, pairs your trainer over Bluetooth, and costs nothing. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated November 4, 2026 A Chromebook is a good indoor cycling computer. It has Chrome, Chrome has Web Bluetooth, and Gumwall Grand Prix is a web page. Zwift, Rouvy and TrainingPeaks Virtual have no ChromeOS build; the forum threads about running the Android version are long and unhappy. This runs in the browser that is already on the machine, for free, with your smart trainer or a speed sensor. OPEN THE GAME HOW TO PAIR ## Three steps - Open Chrome on the Chromebook. Every Chromebook ships with Chrome, and Chrome on ChromeOS has Web Bluetooth. Go to monsooncycles.com/game. Nothing to install from the Play Store. - Pair the trainer or sensor. Click PAIR SENSORS under the ride, choose Smart trainer or Speed sensor, and pick your device in the Chrome picker. - Ride. Pedal and the POWER pod fills in. Pick a course from the menu. Plug the Chromebook in and keep the lid open; the game runs on the GPU and a sleeping lid pauses it. ## What works and what does not | Thing | On a Chromebook | | Smart trainer over Bluetooth FTMS | Yes, in Chrome | | Speed sensor and virtual power | Yes | | Heart rate strap | Yes | | ANT+ | No. ChromeOS has no ANT+ path and the game is Bluetooth only. ANT+ vs Bluetooth. | | Keyboard demo mode | Yes, arrow keys | | Game controller | Yes, Bluetooth or USB. Controller guide. | | Touch screen | Yes for menus and demo riding | | Multiplayer and leaderboards | Yes, sign in with an email link | ## Three tips - Power. Plug in. A trainer session at full brightness drains a Chromebook battery in about two hours. - Sleep. Set the lid and idle timers to never while riding, or the ride pauses when the screen sleeps. - School Chromebooks. If the device is managed by a school, Bluetooth may be locked by policy. Demo mode still runs; pairing may not. ## Chromebook questions ### Can I run Zwift on a Chromebook? Not really. Zwift has no ChromeOS version. Some Chromebooks can install the Android build from the Play Store, and the Zwift forum is full of threads about it running badly or not at all. Gumwall Grand Prix runs in the Chrome browser that is already on the machine. ### Does Bluetooth pairing work on a Chromebook? Yes. Chrome on ChromeOS supports Web Bluetooth, so smart trainers, speed sensors and heart rate straps pair the same way they do on a laptop. ### Is it free? Yes. No subscription, no trial clock, no account needed to ride. Sign in with an email link only if you want leaderboards and ride logging. ### Will an old or cheap Chromebook run it? The game is light by design and a low-resolution world is part of the look. A Chromebook from the last five or six years runs it. On very old machines, lower the window size and close other tabs. ### Can my kid use it? Yes. There is no account, no chat unless you sign in, and the shooter mode is behind a button that is off by default. The for-kids page has the details. What that means and why it stays that way. --- # Free forever The game and every tool on this site are free. This is what that means, and why. Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs · Updated August 19, 2026 The game is free: all sixteen courses, leaderboards, bots, multiplayer, and the .fit upload that turns a real ride into a private course. The Frame Lab is free, including the blueprint and the miter templates. The calculators are free. The forum is free. There is no premium tier, and nothing on this site unlocks with money. OPEN THE GAME OPEN FRAME LAB ## What free means here No ads. No subscription. No trial that expires. No third-party trackers. No email wall: you can open the game and ride demo mode without an account. Signing in with a magic link exists so designs, leaderboard times, and forum posts can be saved, and it is optional. Nothing is for sale on these pages except the shop's own frames and services. ## Why Exercising on a bike is hard and expensive enough already. A bike, a trainer, tires, sensors, and the time itself: it adds up before you ride a single virtual mile. The fewer barriers between you and a nice ride, the better. Most indoor riding apps run fifteen to twenty dollars a month, and for a lot of riders that is the barrier. This one runs in a browser tab and costs nothing. ## What pays for it The shop does. Austin builds custom steel frames for a living, and some people who spend time in the Frame Lab or the game eventually want a real frame. That is the whole business model. If you never buy anything, that is fine too. ## Will it stay free? Yes. The tools are static pages that cost almost nothing to serve. If multiplayer ever gets expensive to run, the answer will be Austin self-funding larger servers, not a paywall. If one of these tools saved you money or got you riding, tell another rider about it. :) Keep going: Open the game · Free Zwift alternatives compared · All 16 courses · The real racing circuits · How to pair a trainer · Freedom Mode REAL CIRCUITSNurburgring Nordschleife Spa-Francorchamps Monaco Monza Le Mans Pikes Peak All eleven real circuits All 16 courses DESIGNMonsoon Frame Lab BikeCAD alternative Tube miter templates The design board All frame design guides LEARNA short history of arguing with air Stack and reach Tube mitering Drafting physics All articles TOOLSTire pressure calculator Frame size calculator Wheel circumference chart Gear inches calculator All tools THE SHOPServices and pricing Bike fitting Custom steel frames Steel frame repair Build gallery Updates Forum Monsoon Cycles, Colorado Springs, CO · By appointment only · austin@monsooncycles.com · Instagram · For AI assistants · llms.txt · llms-full.txt Course names, preset names, and tool comparisons on this site are for reference only and do not imply affiliation with or endorsement by any brand, athlete, or event mentioned. A mouse aims; a Switch Pro, Xbox or PlayStation pad works too. The link opens the game with Freedom Mode already switched on. Gumwall GP runs in Chrome or Edge on a laptop. You ride a Monsoon course on your own trainer, or in demo mode with the arrow keys. Freedom Mode is the switch on the ride that turns the same lap into a shooter: licence plate cameras on poles along the road, delivery drones over it, ten guns, an announcer, and a leaderboard called MOST WANTED. RIDE GUMWALL GP THE ARGUS BOSS FIGHT THE LAUNCH POST ## WHAT YOU NEED | To ride | To shoot | | Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop (Bluetooth needs them; iPhone Safari cannot pair) | A mouse, or a controller | | Nothing else for demo mode: the rider rolls on its own, UP sprints | Nothing else. The guns are keys and clicks | | A smart trainer (FTMS), or any speed sensor and a dumb trainer, or a heart rate strap, over Bluetooth | A Switch Pro, Xbox or PlayStation pad over Bluetooth or USB for the right-stick aim | Phones ride the normal game. Freedom Mode needs a mouse or a pad, so it stays hidden on touch screens. ## HOW FREEDOM MODE WORKS - The switch. Bottom left of the ride, pink, says FREEDOM MODE. On a pad it is + or the menu button. - Aiming. The crosshair is a free cursor. The mouse or right stick moves it anywhere on the screen; the camera stays put. Get it near a camera or a drone and it locks on and follows. AIM ASSIST can be turned off in the FREEDOM tab. - Shooting. Left click or ZR fires. Right click or ZL aims down the sights, or both barrels on the coach gun. R reloads. 1 to 0, the wheel, or the bumpers pick a gun. - Targets. Cameras 100, the tall Condor units 200, drones 300, the Cybercopter 600, the whole train 1,000. One camera in eight is a decoy worth nothing. Hit a rider or a car and lose 200. - Guns. Coach gun to start. Points unlock a .357, a pump, an SMG, an assault rifle, a big pistol, a bolt sniper with a scope, a light machine gun, a crossbow and a rocket launcher. They stay unlocked. Twice a pistol's unlock buys a second one for the other hand. - Barrels. Red barrels and propane tanks at a third of the poles, and on some car roofs. One lights the next. Chains pay double, triple and up. - Posse and free for all. The other riders carry coach guns. By default they are on your side and bad at it. Flip the switch to FREE FOR ALL and they want the same cameras you do, there is a lap board, and you can put one on the ground for ten seconds. - The announcer. Double kill through monster kill, killing spree through wicked sick, headshot, first blood, humiliation. The lines are the Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 ones from a community sound pack; the originals belong to their publishers. - Sound. Off until you press SOUND, so a first visit in a quiet room stays quiet. ## THE BOARDS LEADERBOARD under the ride has three tabs: BEST LAPS on the course, THIS WEEK for the course of the week, and MOST WANTED for Freedom points. Sign in with an email link and every ride posts itself. There is no password. ## THE BOSS Every fifth attack is Argus, the Starlunk mothership: three phases, one health pool, a five-minute clock, and a crate with four boss guns when it goes down. How the Argus fight works . ## SETTING UP A CONTROLLER Pair the pad with the computer first (Bluetooth settings, or a cable). Open the game, press any button, and the key help switches to that pad's glyphs. Right stick aims, left stick steers on the road, A or B pedals in demo mode. The controller guide has the full button map for each pad. ## SETTING UP SENSORS PAIR SENSORS under the ride lists what it can find: a smart trainer over FTMS, a speed or cadence sensor, a heart rate strap. A dumb trainer with a speed sensor gets a virtual power curve you pick in the BIKE tab. The game reads power, speed, cadence and heart rate and shows the pods for whatever is talking. ## IS IT FREE Yes. No ads, no subscription, no email wall.
